Project P.I.T.T. Sticky Tools: How Sticking Works
“How does the sticky tool work?” is one of the most-asked questions in the game, because the shop sells it with almost no explanation. Here is the whole mechanic.
What sticky tools actually is
An upgrade to placement, not a gadget you hold. After buying it, building pieces (panels, cushions, slicks) stick when placed in contact with the floor, or in contact with another object that is already stuck. That second clause is the whole trick: stuck-to-stuck chains let you build walls, chutes and elevated lanes.
The rule comes straight from the developer’s FAQ: “put the panel you want to stay in contact with the floor or another sticked object.”
When it unlocks
Early — immediately after panels in the unlock order. The developer deliberately moved it there in the demo 1.0.1 patch because players kept unlocking panels, watching them fall over, and quitting. If you have panels but no sticky yet, keep feeding: it’s next.
Building with it
- Anchor first. The first piece of any structure must touch the ground. Then grow the chain piece by piece.
- Flat placement: double-tap the reset-rotation key (G) to lay a piece perfectly flat — added in update 1.0.5 precisely for panel builders.
- Funnels: two stuck panels in a V, feeding a fan, is the standard early lane (automation guide).
- Unsticking: pick the piece back up (LMB). The Press also deletes building items for a partial refund.
- The Panel Rack (1.0.5) lets you carry multiple panels per trip — quality of life for big builds.
”My panels still fall over”
The classic failure chain, in order of likelihood:
- You haven’t actually bought sticky tools yet (it’s an upgrade — check the terminal).
- The first piece isn’t touching the floor — a chain hanging from nothing falls as one.
- You stuck the piece to a loose object — stuck-to-stuck only counts if the anchor is stuck.
- A phase transition dumped debris on the build and knocked pieces loose.
More panel-specific failure modes (bouncing product, walls collapsing under load) are on the panels page.
